Two cheers for smoke-filled rooms

In these most hyperpartisan of times, it may be that the only opportunity for actual policy advance is via (perhaps no longer smoke-filled) back-room deals. At least that's what seems to be driving progress on health coverage for the 24 million uninsured Americans. Geez, politicians doing their job, instead of grandstanding: who woulda thunk it?
