What getting hit by an IED looks like

Gnarly footage of a US convoy in Iraq getting hit by a car bomb. It's not gruesome, but does give a clear sense of what we're up against in Iraq.

Looking at those pictures reminds me of the scene in "The Godfather, Part II," when Michael explains to Hyman Roth why, after all, investing in Cuba (this is 1958) might not be such a swell idea:

Michael: I saw a strange thing today. Some rebels were being arrested. One of them pulled the pin on a grenade. He took himself and the captain of the command with him. Now, soldiers are paid to fight; the rebels aren't.

Hyman: What does that tell you?

Michael: It means they could win.

Could win, hm, yes...
