R.I.P. merit-testing

The Economist couldn't be more right in its lament for the perversion of the ETS's Scholastic Aptitude Tests. (I think Lexington overplays his hand, however, when he claims that, "The old SATs were responsible for producing one of the great silent social revolutions in American history—the rise of the meritocracy." There was a little more to it than just the rise of standardized testing....)
