Our new homeland security chief

Here's some good buzz about Bernard Kerik, our newly nominated Secretary of Homeland Security, from last April:

Former New York Police Commissioner Bernard Kerik and former New York Fire Commissioner Thomas Van Essen have formed the Bush-Cheney 2004 National First Responders Team supporting the president's re-election.

In announcing the group, Kerik took a swipe at Sen. John Kerry, pointing to Kerry's votes to cut intelligence budgets and against the $87 billion Iraq appropriation and saying his biggest fear is another 9/11 attack: "If you put Senator Kerry in the White House, I think you are going to see that happen ... and I don't want to see another September 11."

If the Germans had an agency like this one, they'd call it the Heimatsicherheitsministerium.
