Bush yesterday described the spiraling violence in Basra as "a very positive moment in the development of a sovereign nation." An eerie echoe of Condi's infamous line about how Israel's destruction of Southern Lebanon and subsequent defeat in its 2006 war against Hezbollah represented "the birth pangs of a new Middle East."
